Step behind Ticknall Village Hall and discover Ticknall’s best kept secret. Dame Catherine Harpur’s School is an enchanting environment set within green lawns and hidden dens, with the spire of  St George’s Church just a stone’s throw away. This magical oasis is one of the reasons why our pupils are so happy here. Our school provides a first class all-round education for girls and boys in a happy family environment from three to eleven years of age.

At Dame Catherine’s everyone matters. Staff and pupils know each other by first name and caring for others is our priority.

Our boys and girls are taught in a vibrant, enthusiastic environment. We strongly believe that children are best equipped to make the most of their lives and talents when self confidence is allied with determination and perseverance.

Our broad based curriculum recognises the importance of the core subjects of English, Maths and Science and this is enriched by an extensive number of trips and outings, including our annual Key Stage 2 trip to Wales.

Dame Catherine’s has developed a strong tradition of Drama, Music and the Arts. We have a strong peripatetic music department and children who wish can begin to learn piano, violin, cornet, clarinet, guitar and singing when they join the school. They can also join the vibrant School Choir.

Our curriculum is also complimented by specialist teaching in French and Physical Education.

We are extremely proud of our progressive and innovative learning environment. Our approach incorporates Steiner, Montessori and Forest School principles and ideas which we blend, and build on, in response to each child’s needs and interests. We believe we have something unique to offer you and your child here at Dame Catherine’s.  Please do come and visit our special school, talk to staff and pupils and explore all the experiences we have to offer.
